of temples of Burmese influence and the discovery of the
different tribes.
Furthermore the region is excellent for a trek in the forest,
birds and plants
observation, elephant riding, climbing or rafting on the
Pai river.
Day 1: Mae Sot / Umphang
At the arrival, welcome by our local guide, then transfer to the hotel and check-in for 2 nights.
After lunch in a local restaurant, orientation walk in Mae Hong Son with the visit of the main temples: the Wat Jong Klang and the Wat Jong Kham with a small museum of old objects and Burmese dolls; the Wat Phra Non and its twelve metres lying Buddha; and the Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu that dominates the whole region from the summit of a hill at the west of the city so as to offers a superb panoramic on the valley.

Day 2: Mae Hong Son
After breakfast at the hotel, departure by local vehicle to Hua Sua Tao, for the visit of a Karen village with the Padaung tribe (the long neck women), where members of the Karen tribe with long ears can also be seen, together with the red Karen. Transfer to the camp of elephants, then departure on elephant back for an excursion in the jungle.
Lunch picnic in a village.
Trek in the middle of the rice fields and a luxuriant forest with discovery of the Shan and Hmong villages, then, embark in a bamboo raft (or plastic raft depending on the season) for an expedition on the Pai River, to Mae Hong Son. Diner at the restaurant and night at the hotel.
Day 3: Mae Hong Son / Chiang Mai
Breakfast. Free morning to discover the local market, before the transfer to the airport for the flight back to Chiang Mai.

Day 3: Mae Hong Son / Pai
Breakfast. Visit of the local market in the early morning, departure by vehicle to Pai, region of forest and mountains, populated of the ethnic tribes Shan, Lahu, Lisu... Visit of the huge cave of Soppong, crossed by underground rivers.
Lunch at the local restaurant.
Afternoon dedicated to the discovery of the ethnic tribes villages Lahu and Lisu, as well as a village of the Kuomitmang. In late afternoon, relaxation at the cascades of Mor Paeng with bathing before check in at the Muang Pai Resort. Possibility of a traditional massage with medicinal herbs sauna.
Diner and night there.
Day 4: Pai / Chiang Mai
Breakfast. Early morning visit of Pai, with a trek in the mountain for a meeting with ethnic tribes, before continuing by vehicle to Chiang Mai. Stop at the cascade of Mok Pha, then, free time in a source of hot water.
Transfer to the airport of Chiang Mai for the flight back to Bangkok or transfer to the railway station for a night travel to Bangkok by train.

The number of participants remains limited to about fifty people because of the small
capacity of the planes landing in Mae Hon Son, but also to stay in harmony with
this rural community in the middle of the mountains, that is not used to bigger groups.
The visit of the ethnic tribe villages will take place in subgroup, there also, in order to have
the best possible contact with the population. For the adventurous and people good at sport,
a trek together with rafting on the Pai river can be arranged for your pleasure.
By air, more than 10 flights per day between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, then 3 flights per day between Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai. Mae Hong Son is situated at more than 900 kilometres from the capital as against about 300 kilometres for Chiang Mai, the famous "Rose of the North". Easily reached by plane or by road, this small city reveals Thailand of the past when it was under a strong Burmese influence, through the architecture of its temples, its traditional dresses, its language and its handicrafts. The population of this region is composed of Karen, Hmong, Lisu and Shan, without forgetting the amazing worldwide known tribe of women with long necks.
