Just a few kilometres of Phetchaburi at the south-west of Bangkok,
the National Park of Kaeng Krachan is a small paradise for the nature lovers,
with a big lake, rivers and waterfalls, a summit of 1,207 metres and without
forgetting its wild animals, birds and butterflies…
A choice of two programmes:
A: Programme Leisure Excursion on the lake with a stop out on one of the isolate islands, observation of numerous bird species, walk in the park, calm descent of the Petchaburi River. More info
B: Programme Adventure Visit of the 70 wild elephants' territory as well as the Elephant Museum, trek in the forest then bathing in the waterfall of Pala-U, climbing of the mountain for the visit of a sacred cave, descent of the Petchaburi River.More info

08:30Departure from the hotel at Cha-Am (or Hua Hin) in air-conditioned vehicle toward the national park of Kaeng Krachan, one of the biggest of Thailand with nearly 90% of a particularly dense and luxuriant forest, as well as a very rich fauna with elephants, bears, deer, tigers, wild oxen … and more than 300 birds species.
09:30 At the arrival to the dam of Kaeng Krachan that controls the river of Petchaburi, get in a long tail boat for a trip on the lake with a stop at one of the isolated islands, where it is possible to spend the night under tents with the agreement of the forest rangers of the park. Navigation in dugout in the middle of the islets, with observation of numerous rare bird species that are protected in this park.
10:30 Get out on the river's bank, then walk in the park towards the rafting camp where will be served a local breakfast (Thai coffee & Thai tea).
11:30 After receiving the safety instructions and being equipped with a life jacket, departure in plastic raft for about one hour of drifting downstream the river of Petchaburi. There are some easy rapids everybody can pass, but the purpose of this descent won't be sensations of speed but rather leisure with superb landscapes of vegetation and the discovery of numerous bird species that can be seen there.
12:30 Lunch-picnic on a floating house in bamboo, between the activities.
13:30Continuation of the rafting activity for 1 to 3 hours of drifting downstream on the river of Petchaburi depending on the choice of the arrival point decided before the departure.
16:00 At the arrival, free time to change clothes, then departure by vehicle.

07:30 Departure from Cha-Am (or Hua Hin) in air-conditioned vehicle toward the national park of Kaeng Krachan, one of the biggest of Thailand with nearly 90% of a particularly dense and luxuriant forest, as well as a very rich fauna with elephants, bears, deer, tigers, wild oxen … and more than 300 birds species.
08:30 Pass through the station of the forest rangers, then after 30 minutes on the road, arrival in the territory of the 70 wild elephants, which is a protected area in the park. Visit of the Elephant Museum, and with a bit of luck the possibility to see wild elephants.
09:30 Continuation by vehicle towards the Burmese border, then hike of thirty minutes through the dense and luxuriant forest to join the waterfall of Pala-U. Free time to enjoy a refreshing bath under the cascades and in the natural swimming pools (temperature of the water at around 20-Celsius degrees).
10:30 Departure of the hike on trails through the jungle to reach a few small villages (essentially Karen populations) while passing by various plantations.
11:30 Climbing on the mountain of about ten minutes to reach a sacred meditation place that is situated in a cave. This place of meditation is used by its majesty King Bhumiphol, the present Rama 9. Visit and discovery of the site that consists of other underground caves that are joined by underground galleries. Outside, superb panoramic on the jungle and the lakes offering themselves to the privileged visitors.
13:00 Descent on foot along a small river, then continuation towards the rafting camp for lunch, with refreshing drinks.
14:00 After getting the safety instructions and being equipped with a life jacket and a helmet, departure in plastic raft for about one hour and thirty minutes of drifting downstream on the Petchaburi River (area upstream of the Kaeng Kracharn Lake) with some passages of rapids and superb landscapes all along the way.
16:00 At the arrival, free time to change clothes then continuation by vehicle toward the exit of the park of Kaeng Krachan.
After recent survey on the region, a group of 50 persons was with us at the end
of November on the basis of the programme A (leisure). We had 2 air-conditioned
buses to reach the park, 1 vehicle of assistance, 8 long tail boats on the lake,
10 plastic rafts and a team of 14 helmsmen for the descent of the river, 3 coordinators
equipped with radio, 3 English-speaking local guides, 2 forest rangers of the park.
A lunch barbecue with unlimited drinks was organized in a place held secret.
The descent in raft was completed with a treasure hunt, and at the arrival soft drinks
and dry clothes awaited the participants for the continuation of the programme.
Then, 30 minutes in a bus and 15 minutes to climb the mountain and arrive
in a vast underground cave, where this time a cocktail of fruits served in a pineapple
was offered to the participants having climbed the last abrupt steps!

Not far from Hua Hin where our group spent a few days of a vacation-leisure, the national park of Kaeng Krachan, which is the largest in Thailand, awaited us. After a copious breakfast and one hour on the road, the checkpoint of the forest rangers was finally visible. The park is composed of 90% of dense and lush forest fed by the strong rains in the region. It offers a very rich variety of fauna with its elephants, bears, tigers, wild cows and oxen, as well as, 300 species of birds.
